Model reduction of contact dynamics simulation using a modified Lyapunov balancing method

Finite element models are often used to simulate impact and contact dynamics responses of multibody dynamical systems. However, such a simulation remains very inefficient because very small integration time step must be used when solving the involved differential equations, especially when the involved contact stiffness is high. Although many model reduction techniques have been available to improve the efficiency of finite element based simulations, these techniques cannot be readily applied to contact dynamics simulations due to the high nonlinearity of the contact dynamics models. This paper presents a model reduction approach for finite-element based multibody contact dynamics simulation, based on a modified Lyapunov balanced truncation method. An example is presented to demonstrate that, by applying the model reduction the simulation process is significantly speeded up and the resulting error is bounded within an acceptable level. The performance of the method with respect to some influential factors such as element size, shape and contact stiffness is also investigated.

Development and testing of a wireless smart toolholder with multi-sensor fusion

摘要: The smart toolholder is the core component in the development of intelligent and precise manufacturing. It enables in situ monitoring of cutting data and machining accuracy evolution and has become a focal point in academic research and industrial applications. However, current table and rotational dynamometers for milling force, vibration, and temperature testing suffer from cumbersome installation and provide only a single acquisition signal, which limits their use in laboratory settings. In this study, we propose a wireless smart toolholder with multi-sensor fusion for simultaneous sensing of milling force, vibration, and temperature signals. We select force, vibration, and temperature sensors suitable for smart toolholder fusion to adapt to the cutting environment. Thereafter, structural design, circular runout, dynamic balancing, static stiffness, and dynamic inherent frequency tests are conducted to assess its dynamic and static performance. Finally, the smart toolholder is tested for accuracy and repeatability in terms of force, vibration, and temperature. Experimental results demonstrate that the smart toolholder accurately captures machining data with a relative deviation of less than 1.5% compared with existing force gauges and provides high repeatability of milling temperature and vibration signals. Therefore, it is a smart solution for machining condition monitoring.

Balancing method without trial weights for rotor systems based on similitude scale model

A balancing method without trial weights based on the dynamic similitude scale model was proposed as a solution to the balancing problem of a large-scale rotor system. This method could be used to directly obtain the required coefficients for the balancing problem of the prototype system through a similarity model test without a prototype test. Thus, the weight test process of the prototype system was effectively eliminated in the proposed balancing method. First, with the rotor system as the research object, the analytical expression of the influence coefficient was derived on the basis of rotor dynamics theory. Then, through calculation and dimensional analysis methods, the similitude relationships of the rotor system and the influence coefficient were deduced on the basis of dynamic similitude theory. The correctness of the proposed similitude relationships was verified through numerical simulation and experiment. The balancing method without trial weights was proposed based on the similitude relationship of the influence coefficient. The effect of the balancing method without trial weights was compared with that of the traditional influence coefficient method through numerical simulation, and the results verified the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed balancing method. The results of this study provide theoretical supplements for the balancing method and the similitude design of the rotor system.

Static balancing of planar articulated robots

Static balancing for a manipulator’s weight is necessary in terms of energy saving and performance improvement. This paper proposes a method to design balancing devices for articulated robots in industry, based on robotic dynamics. Full design details for the balancing system using springs are presented from two aspects: One is the optimization for the position of the balancing system; the other is the design of the spring parameters. As examples, two feasible balancing devices are proposed, based on different robotic structures: The first solution consists of linkages and springs; the other consists of pulleys, cross mechanisms and (hydro-) pneumatic springs. Then the two solutions are compared. Pneumatic, hydro-pneumatic and mechanical springs are discussed and their parameters are decided according to the requirements of torque compensation. Numerical results show that with the proper design using the methodology presented in this paper, an articulated robot can be statically balanced perfectly in all configurations. This paper therefore provides a design method of the balancing system for other similar structures.

A novel power system reconfiguration for a distribution system with minimum load balancing index using

摘要: In this paper, the objective of minimum load balancing index (LBI) for the 16-bus distribution system is achieved using bacterial foraging optimization algorithm (BFOA). The feeder reconfiguration problem is formulated as a non-linear optimization problem and the optimal solution is obtained using BFOA. With the proposed reconfiguration method, the radial structure of the distribution system is retained and the burden on the optimization technique is reduced. Test results are presented for the 16-bus sample network, the proposed reconfiguration method has effectively decreased the LBI, and the BFOA technique is efficient in searching for the optimal solution.

Shaking-moment balancing of mechanisms with principal vectors and momentum

The design of shaking-moment-balanced linkages still is challenging. Considering moment balance in the very beginning of the design process of mechanisms is important for finding applicable solutions. For this purpose, the method of principal vectors is investigated, showing a compact notation of the angular momentum with respect to the center of mass. The moment balance conditions are derived for three elements in series from which balance solutions are synthesized and illustrated. From the application for moment balancing of a 4R four-bar linkage it is shown that the moment balancing of closed kinematic chains remains challenging.

Pareto lexicographic α-robust approach and its application in robust multi objective assembly line balancing

Robustness in most of the literature is associated with min-max or min-max regret criteria. However, these criteria of robustness are conservative and therefore recently new criteria called, lexicographic α-robust method has been introduced in literature which defines the robust solution as a set of solutions whose quality or jth largest cost is not worse than the best possible jth largest cost in all scenarios. These criteria might be significant for robust optimization of single objective optimization problems. However, in real optimization problems, two or more than two conflicting objectives are desired to optimize concurrently and solution of multi objective optimization problems exists in the form of a set of solutions called Pareto solutions and from these solutions it might be difficult to decide which Pareto solution can satisfy min-max, min-max regret or lexicographic α-robust criteria by considering multiple objectives simultaneously. Therefore, lexicographic α-robust method which is a recently introduced method in literature is extended in the current research for Pareto solutions. The proposed method called Pareto lexicographic α-robust approach can define Pareto lexicographic α-robust solutions from different scenarios by considering multiple objectives simultaneously. A simple example and an application of the proposed method on a simple problem of multi objective optimization of simple assembly line balancing problem with task time uncertainty is presented to get their robust solutions. The presented method can be significant to implement on different multi objective robust optimization problems containing uncertainty.

The MYC transcription factor network: balancing metabolism, proliferation and oncogenesis

Transcription factor networks have evolved in order to control, coordinate, and separate, the functions of distinct network modules spatially and temporally. In this review we focus on the MYC network (also known as the MAX-MLX Network), a highly conserved super-family of related basic-helix-loop-helix-zipper (bHLHZ) proteins that functions to integrate extracellular and intracellular signals and modulate global gene expression. Importantly the MYC network has been shown to be deeply involved in a broad spectrum of human and other animal cancers. Here we summarize molecular and biological properties of the network modules with emphasis on functional interactions among network members. We suggest that these network interactions serve to modulate growth and metabolism at the transcriptional level in order to balance nutrient demand with supply, to maintain growth homeostasis, and to influence cell fate. Moreover, oncogenic activation of MYC and/or loss of a MYC antagonist, results in an imbalance in the activity of the network as a whole, leading to tumor initiation, progression and maintenance.

Anefficient data layout scheme for better I/O balancing inRAID-6 storage systems

摘要: Among redundant arrays of independent disks (RAID)-6 codes, maximum distance separable (MDS) based RAID-6 codes are popular because they have the optimal storage efficiency. Although vertical MDS codes exhibit better load balancing compared to horizontal MDS codes in partial stripes, an I/O unbalancing problem still exists in some vertical codes. To address this issue, we propose a novel efficient data layout, uniform P-code (UPC), to support highly balanced I/Os among P-coded disk arrays (i.e., PC). In UPC, the nonuniformly distributed information symbols in each parity chain of P-code are moved along their columns to other rows, thus enabling the parity chain to keep original parity relationships and tolerate double disk failures. The UPC scheme not only achieves optimal storage efficiency, computational complexity, and update complexity, but also supports better I/O balancing in the context of large-scale storage systems. We also conduct a performance study on reconstruction algorithms using an analytical model. Besides extensive theoretical analysis, comparative performance experiments are conducted by replaying real-world workloads under various configurations. Experimental results illustrate that our UPC scheme significantly outperforms the PC scheme in terms of average user response time. In particular, in the case of a 12-disk array, the UPC scheme can improve the access performance of the RAID-6 storage system by 29.9% compared to the PC scheme.

Balancing resilience and efficiency in supply chains: Roles of disruptive technologies under Industry

摘要: In the Industry 4.0 era, disruptive technologies such as big data analytics, blockchain, Internet-of-Things, and additive manufacturing have become major forces driving supply chain transformation. Under such circumstances, particular attention should be attached to balancing resilience and efficiency of the supply chain, especially in the presence of more turbulence. In this study, we first summarize the conflicts between supply chain efficiency and supply chain resilience regarding practices and objectives. Then, we discuss the positive effects of disruptive technologies in improving resilience and efficiency. Afterwards, we propose a research agenda that covers both the influence mechanism and trade-off mechanism of these technologies in terms of resilience and efficiency.

An improved artificial bee colony algorithm with MaxTF heuristic rule for two-sided assembly line balancing

摘要: Two-sided assembly line is usually used for the assembly of large products such as cars, buses, and trucks. With the development of technical progress, the assembly line needs to be reconfigured and the cycle time of the line should be optimized to satisfy the new assembly process. Two-sided assembly line balancing with the objective of minimizing the cycle time is called TALBP-2. This paper proposes an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm with the MaxTF heuristic rule. In the heuristic initialization process, the MaxTF rule defines a new task’s priority weight. On the basis of priority weight, the assignment of tasks is reasonable and the quality of an initial solution is high. In the IABC algorithm, two neighborhood strategies are embedded to balance the exploitation and exploration abilities of the algorithm. The employed bees and onlooker bees produce neighboring solutions in different promising regions to accelerate the convergence rate. Furthermore, a well-designed random strategy of scout bees is developed to escape local optima. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed MaxTF rule performs better than other heuristic rules, as it can find the best solution for all the 10 test cases. A comparison of the IABC algorithm and other algorithms proves the effectiveness of the proposed IABC algorithm. The results also denote that the IABC algorithm is efficient and stable in minimizing the cycle time for the TALBP-2, and it can find 20 new best solutions among 25 large-sized problem cases.

针对机床主轴在线自动平衡控制问题,阐述了高速主轴不平衡识别方法和在线自动平衡技术国内外现状,分析了喷液式在线自动平衡装置原理,设计了喷液式平衡系统,并通过高速主轴实验对该系统的有效性进行了验证。研究结果表明,主轴经过平衡后,不平衡量振动值由1.60 mm/s降至0.34 mm/s,主轴失衡振动得到了有效抑制。

Sustainable public-private partnerships: Balancing the multi-actor ecosystem and societal requirements

The funding gap of public infrastructure networks (roads, railways, ports, electricity, and energy lines) can be solved partly by introducing private capital for investments, i.e., public-private partnerships (PPP). This paper introduces an integrated model of a PPP project and investigates its implications on PPP policies and strategies regarding appropriate project appraisal and selection. The model has different resolution levels, namely, project level, business ecosystem level, and market and societal levels. The integrated model suggests that investing in merely financially viable projects is insufficient to realize economically and socially sustainable and acceptable projects.

MDLB:一种基于强化学习的元数据动态负载均衡机制 Research Articles

摘要: 随着信息和数据量增长,面向对象的存储系统已被广泛应用到很多领域,包括Google文件系统、AmazonS3、Hadoop分布式文件系统和Ceph。其中元数据负载均衡在提高整个系统输入/输出性能方面起着重要作用,元数据负载不平衡会导致服务器出现严重的系统性能瓶颈问题。然而现有元数据负载平衡策略缺乏良好动态性和适用性,如基于子树分割或者哈希的负载策略。提出一种基于强化学习的动态负载平衡机制(MDLB)。采用Q_learning算法,所提基于强化学习机制由3个模块组成,即策略选择网络、负载均衡网络和参数更新网络。实验结果表明MDLB算法可根据元数据服务器的性能动态调节负载,在数据量骤变情况下仍具有很好适应性。
